This morning was CRAZY! Another freezing cold day: This morning we were walking to school...running a little bit late, so we picked up the pace a little once on school grounds. We were literally about 200 yards from the school when Capucine fell to the ground in pain. She had twisted her ankle so badly she could hardly walk.
One thing I have definitely observed being here: everyone adheres to the motto "if its not broken, don't fix it". Or, in this case, if it is completely broken, yet still possibly functional...why bother? The paths at school have so many holes and dips and breaks, that it is no wonder capucine tripped in her boots. We finally made it to the nurses office (after a significant amount of hopping) where a note was posted on the door saying that it would be another 20 minutes before the office opened. So Capucine and I took a spot on the floor. She was literally fighting back tears when a teacher found me with her and dragged me off to class.
The next time I saw Capucine she had a brace on her ankle and was on crutches. It was just a bad sprain, but she went to the doctor and he said a week on crutches, 2 with a brace, and another to recuperate, before she would be able to go back to life as normal. La pauvre! :(
Besides my constant worry for Capucine, it was a really good day. I am starting to get to know everyone in my class pretty well. They are all super fun to be around, so they made me feel good, despite the crazy day.
Friends (maybe plus leftover chocolate from the holidays)--thats all we need to survive the next few weeks on crutches.
