chocolate chip
Today I made chocolate chip cookies for my family...found the Toll House recipe online and tried to explain the difference baking soda, "bicarbonate de soudre", and baking powder to a crowd of blank stares. Despite a little confusion on the ingredient list, in the end, they turned out really delicious! :) Homemade cookies don't really exist here. To them, cookies are an American brand of rock hard sugar you buy in little packages at the supermarket. Opening their eyes to the glory of real cookies was an honor. They went on and on about how "Taylor's" recipe was so unique and delicious. (I tried to explain the fact that the Toll House recipe is the one almost every person in the world uses to bake chocolate chip cookies, but they would hear nothing of it. This was my personal magic.) They brought my cookies around to everyone they knew and made them taste...I am thinking next week we try a different recipe, but I am not sure the reaction could get much better than this! haha!
